Report

Saturday 14th October at Farquharson Park, McBookie.com North Division:

Saturday saw Scone go into this game off the back of 3 consecutive wins but well aware that the days visitors had only lost one game and were sitting top of the league. Any complacency would’ve been quickly checked when Dundee Violet had the first chance of the match when Ross Bell hit the post within 3 minutes of the kick of. The Violet had a string of corners as they took the match to Scone in the opening 10 minutes. Scone settled down though and on 13 minutes Andrew MacKenzie (who has joined the club on loan from Jeanfield Swifts) had the first shot on target for Scone and forced the first of many saves from Gary Thain, in fact 6 minutes later the Violet keeper first blocked a long distance shot from Stephen Moon before also saving from Jame Ayton as he tried to score from the rebound. Scone were beginning to create more chances and a free kick taken by MacKenzie on 26 minutes found Ross Mitchell (sponsored by Barry Grieve Plastering, Jedburgh) in the 6 yard area who was able to rifle the shot home to give Scone the lead. The Violet then had a couple of shots on target themselves as they tried to get back into the game only for Josh Gorton to make the necessary saves. On 35 minutes Craig Mitchell was forced off with a hamstring injury and Gary Mackie (sponsored by Aceso Clinic) came on to replace him. As the game approached half time the Violet conceded another free kick and this time Arran McKay (sponsored by J & D Simpson Painter & Decorators) was able to bring the ball down before calmly shooting past Thain to double the Jaggies lead. There was still time for Jamie Ayton & Max Avolio to come close themselves before Scone took to the dressing room with a deserved lead.

Half time score: Scone 2-0 Dundee Violet

Football is sometimes refereed to as a game of 2 halves and the second half would see Dundee Violet step up their efforts to get back into the game. It had been over 315 minutes since Scone had conceded a goal but within 2 minutes of the restart, Violet won a free kick taken by Black which was headed in by Ben Middleton to pull a goal back. Josh Gorton then saved a Violet effort on 56 minutes before Jamie Ayton forced another save at the other end. Scone were looking like a 3rd goal might finish the game and on 73 minutes an Andrew Mackenzie effort was again saved by the Violet keeper to deny Scone a third. As the game drew to an end both sides would make substitutions with Batchelor,Thomson & McIntosh coming on for Violet while Ben Moffat came on for Ross Mitchell as the Jags looked to see the game out. Overall another home win and 3 points taken from what was an entertaining and competitive game.

Full time score: Scone 2-1 Dundee Violet.

Man of the match for Scone: Max Avolio. Again plenty of good performances with Kenzie doing well on his return to Farquharson Park and Stephen Moon having another good game in defence but Max just pipped it with another solid performance. After the match, the manger Derek lawson (sponsored by Colin Ogilvy Joinery) told Jaggies News “We are absolutely delighted to get 3 points in what was a hard fought game. I’m proud of the players and their attitude and work rate against what is a good Dundee Violet side“. The match was also watched by a number of Sponsors & invited guests who were enjoying the hospitality of the Club and the Wheel Inn. Also leading the team out and mascots for the day were 2 of the Community Club boys Charlie & Jack (pictured above) who we hope enjoyed their day along with our guests. Many thanks to all of those that came along and thank you for your continued support. The Club will be holding another “hospitality day” for the Dundee North End game on the 4th of November. Tickets include a two course meal, drinks vouchers, admission to the game, half time refreshment and buffet at the end of the game, Any interested parties, speak to a committee member, playing staff or email commercial@sconethistlefc.org.
