Match Report: Arbroath Vics

Saturday 30th September at Farquharson Park, McBookie.com North Division:

Saturday saw Arbroath Vics travel to Scone and saw The Jaggies not only record back to back home wins but also keep consecutive (league) clean sheets for the first time this season. With a number of players again unavailable, manager Derek lawson (sponsored by Colin Ogilvy Joinery) made a few changes to the side that played against Carnoustie. Captain Willie Laing returned to the side for Craig Mitchell and Gary Mackie, Fraser MacDonald and Jamie Ayton all started with Fraser Morrison, Max Avolio & Charlie Fertacz all missing for the day. Also joining the juniors squad was Scone 2001s forward Aaron Carlon having previously trained with the squad midweek. The Vics were the first to get a shot on target, however on 13 minutes Ross Mitchell forced a save from Whitton to give Scone the first corner of the match which Martin Strachan took and Sean Whitworth (sponsored by Steven & Yvonne Whitworth) headed past the defender on the line to open the scoring. 10 minutes later Scone made it 2-0 when a Kevin Sinclair corner was headed back across goal by Ross Mitchell and Arran McKay (sponsored by J & D Simpson) out jumped the Vics defence to score. Two minutes later and Arran McKay doubled his tally to make it 3-0 with a blistering shot past the Vics keeper. As the game approached the break Kevin Sinclair for the second week running saw a shot bounce off the crossbar after good work from Ross Mitchell.

Half time score: Scone 3-0 Arbroath Vics.

The second half was a bit more of a stop/start affair as frustration set in for the visitors and the referee Chris Fordyce issued a number of yellow cards as the game progressed. On 65 minutes Arbroath substituted Ryan Lewis for Kellon Lyons and on 77 minutes Scone replaced Jamie Ayton with Aaron Carlon. Within a minute and with his first touch, Aaron Carlon scored to make it 4-0 after Sean Whitworth headed a Strachan corner, the ball fell to Aaron who hit a shot through the defence and beat the keeper into the top corner. Derek Angus & Lewis Avolio came on for Stephen Moon and Arran McKay on 80 minutes as Scone saw out another home win.

Full time score: Scone 4-0 Arbroath Vics.

Man of the match for Scone: Gary Mackie (sponsored by Aceso Clinic). There was a number of good performances on the pitch, Jamie Ayton had another good game & Arran McKay scored twice but Gary just shaded it with a hard working performance in midfield. Any enquiries to sponsor any of the players and see your name mentioned in our reports & previews can be directed to commercial@sconethistlefc.org. After the match, manager Derek Lawson told Jaggies News “it was a very comfortable performance and I was delighted to keep another clean sheet. Equally pleasing was seeing 16 year old Aaron come off the bench and score with his first touch from a set play“.
