Match Report: Blairgowrie

Saturday 7th April at Farquharson Park, North Division:

Blairgowrie were the visitors on Saturday and were looking to revenge the 3-0 scoreline that Scone inflicted through at Davie Park in October and ultimately would go on to do so. The first attack of the game came from Scone when Kevin Sinclair was fouled in the opening exchanges. A Sean Whitworth free kick went out for a corner kick but Scone were unable to penetrate the Blairgowrie goal. As the visitors settled, Matthew Adam opened the scoring in the 13th minute to give Blairgowrie the lead. Before Scone had the chance to recover, they found themselves further behind just 2 minutes later when Gary Axworthy doubled their lead. Kevin Sinclair almost pulled a goal back after drifting in from the wing only for his effort to drift over the bar. As Scone tried to find a way back, Aran McKay saw a long range effort drift wide on 37 minutes and despite gaining some late corner kicks the visitors took their lead intact into the break.

Half time score: Scone 0-2 Blairgowrie

The second half saw Scone start better but not before goalkeeper Josh Gorton was forced into a great save when it looked like Blair were to score again. Arran McKay looked like he’d pulled a goal back for Scone on 50 minutes after good work from Kevin Sinclair only for Gordon O’Brien to make a great finger tip save to push the ball onto the post. Scone were creating plenty of chances but were struggling to get an effort on target and out of nothing, Scone found themselves further behind when the GK and defence failed to clear the ball when a speculative cross beat everyone to be unfortunately deflected into the net on 65 minutes. Scone made a couple of attacking substitutions with Ben Moffat coming on for Calum Black on 75 minutes and Aaron Carlon replacing Arran McKay 3 minutes later with Blair changing Darren Neave for Corey Gray. Ross Mitchell had a couple of shots on target as the hosts continued to attack before Derek Angus replaced Whitworth for the last few minutes. Ben Moffat & Willie Laing had efforts as the game drew to a close but in the end Scone paid the price for 2 goals in 2 first half minutes.

Full time score: Scone 0-3 Blairgowrie

Man of the match for Scone: Max Avolio. On a disappointing afternoon that Scone had little to cheer about, Kevin Sinclair again gave a solid performance as did Aran McKay who came closest to scoring but Max once again caught the eye as the Jaggies tried to get something out of the match. After the match manager Derek Lawson (sponsored by Colin Ogilvy) told Jaggie News “I’m very disappointed with our performance and the way that we lost the goals. We are not playing well at the moment and we need to dig in and get through this poor run of form“. Scone drop one place to 5th and will be looking to bounce back with a better performance against Coupar Angus next Saturday, the updated league table is available here.
