Saturday 7th October at Davie Park, McBookie.com North Division:
Saturday saw Scone make the quick trip up the road to play Blairgowrie on a warm and sunny autumn afternoon which saw them pick up all 3 points and another clean sheet. Manager Derek Lawson (sponsored by Graham Milne) was without Craig Mitchell and David Winton but was able to call on Max Avolio & Josh Gorton. Scone started well and Gary Mackie was the first to get a shot on target on 2 mins but it was a comfortable save for O’Brien in goal for Blairgowrie. Scone were enjoying the early exchanges with Blairgowrie limited to only a couple of chances in the opening half hour with Josh Gorton (sponsored by the Baker family) being forced into action. Rudi Brown for Blairgowrie then had to be replaced by Steven Findlay on 27 minutes after picking up an injury and on 30 minutes it was Scone that would make the break through. Ross Mitchell curled a shot from just inside the area to force a save and win Scone another corner which was taken by Martin Strachan. The ball fell to Stephen Moon on the far side of the pitch who beat Simpson to get his cross into the area where Ross was waiting to take full advantage.
Half time score: Blairgowrie 0-1 Scone.
Scone have had the odd miserable afternoon at Davie Park over the last few years and an early second goal was surely going to settle any nerves. Within a minute of the restart, Jamie Ayton (sponsored by the Scone 2001s) had doubled the jaggies tally after good work from Kevin Sinclair who cut the ball back for Jamie to score from just outside the 6 yard box. Blairgowrie then had another couple of chances as they tried to get back into the game and on 60 minutes made a double substitution with Dempster & Scott coming on for Macnaughton & Gary. Charlie Fertacz (sponsored by Blackadders) came on for Jamie Ayton on 65 minutes (who had given another solid performance) and would only take a couple of minutes to get involved in the action. Charlie found himself one on one on the left wing with Millar being the only defender between him and goal. Fertacz did well to cut inside and Simpson who was running back to cover was unable to block the shot as Scone scored their 3rd. Avolio came on for Fraser MacDonald on 70 minutes before Ben Moffat came on for Ross Mitchell on 75 minutes as Scone looked to see out the match. Another good result for Scone which was only tarnished by some avoidable bookings which saw Charlie Fertacz pick up a yellow and red card meaning he will now face a suspension.
Full time score: Blairgowrie 0-3 Scone.
Man of the match for Scone: Martin Strachan for his work rate and energy in midfield. After the match, the manager Derek lawson told Jaggies News “very happy again with another clean sheet and a solid performance against a Blairgowrie side where it has always been a hard place to pick up points“. Next up for Scone is a home game v Dundee Violet at Farquharson Park. The Violet currently sit top of the league and are sure to be a test for Scone as the Jaggies look to stay in touch with the early leaders. Kick off is 2:30pm and the Club will also be holding a “Sponsors Hospitality Day” for our Sponsors and invited guests. The day is an opportunity for the Club to welcome them to Farquharson Park and thank them in person for their support.
