Saturday 19th May at Downfield Park, McBookie, com North Division:
Saturday saw Scone travel to Dundee to play Lochee Harp for both sides last game of the season. Manager Derek Lawson had a number of players missing or unavailable and was forced to draft in a mixtures of youth & experienced players to bolster the squad along with three of his coaches on the bench. With the weather again being perfect it’s hard not to see the benefit of summer football but that’s a debate for another day. The game had a more relaxed feel than previous encounters & was played in a good spirt managed by referee Gordon McCabe. Despite a flurry of early corners for Scone it was 14 minutes before either keeper was called into action with Peter Garty in goal for the hosts saving an Aaron Carlon effort. Scone were forced into the first change of the afternoon after Stephen Moon picked up a knock with Ross Maclachlan coming on to replace him on 15 minutes. Josh Gorton had to make a save for Scone on 18 mins but 5 minutes later it was Scone that opened the scoring when Aaron Carlon added another goal to his recent tally with a composed finish to slip the ball beyond the Harp keeper & defence. There was little between the 2 teams for the remainder of the half with no further shots on target.
Half time score: Lochee harp 0-1 Scone Thistle
After the break Scone were forced into another early change when Martin Strachan picked up a knock on 56 minutes and was replaced by ex Jaggie Gavin MacLeod who was helping out for the day. In fact First Aider Eric Duff was a busy man with Gary Mackie also picking up an injury on 78 minutes and had to be replaced by Assistant Manager Paul Farquharson as the visitors looked to see out the match. The last 10 minutes (as so often in these games) saw all of the remaining incidents occur. On 81 minutes Aaron Carlon scored his & Scone’s second goal of the afternoon which looked like it had secured the 3 points but within 3 minutes Lochee Harp pulled a goal back through Ryan McKillen. The visitors needn’t have worried though and on 89 minutes restored their 2 goal lead when an unfortunate pass back from Bradley Millar beat Garty in the Harp goal.
Full time score: Lochee Harp 1-3 Scone Thistle
Man of the match for Scone: Calum Black who has shown in a number of games over the last few weeks how well he is settling into his midfield role and has capped off his debut season with the man of the match. After the match manager Derek lawson (sponsored by Graham Milne) told Jaggies news “I was glad to finish off the season with a win especially with so many players missing. We are looking forward to a break and preparing for preseason. I would also like to thank the players, coaches & committee for their support again this season and look forward to next season“. Next up for the Jaggies is the End of Season Awards & Presentation night on Friday 25th May at the Wheel Inn, Scone. As always, friends, family & sponsors are welcome to attend.
