Saturday 8th December:
Saturday saw Scone welcome Lochee Harp to Farquharson Park in the McBookie.com Premier League North. With the visitors having won the reverse of this fixture back in September, Scone were determined to exact revenge and maintain their recent run of good form. Manager Derek Lawson named a strong starting 11 and early indications were that Scone looked well prepared although when the first couple of chances went begging, you wondered if Scone would rue these chances but the truth is the hosts looked more than comfortable for the majority of this game of picking up all 3 points. The best of the opening chances fell to Darren Gray on 15 minutes when Scone were awarded a free kick which was taken by Ross Wilson & when Gray had just the keeper to beat Ryan Mitchell pulled off a good point blank save to keep the score level. Just 3 minutes later, Scone were awarded their 1st penalty of the day when Mitchell brought down Arran McKay, Darren Gray stepped up to take the kick which again Mitchell was able to save for the Harp. However there was no need to panic & and on 27 minutes, Scone had scored the opening goal that they deserved. This time Martin Strachan got on the end of a McKay cross and after good work from Kevin Sinclair & Craig Mitchell received the ball back to knock the ball past Mark Kelly on the line to give the hosts the lead, before the visitors had a chance to catch their breath Scone were awarded a 2nd penalty kick by referee Anthony Brown after Kelly handled the ball which this time was comfortably scored by Martin Strachan to score his & Scone’s 2nd of the day. Scone continued to attack and to create chances with Josh Gorton having little to do in goal at the other end.
Half time score: Scone 2-0 Lochee Harp
Within a minute of the game restarting, Arran McKay created the first chance of the half before after a string of corners to Scone, Darren Gray & Craig Mitchell both had chances with Craig just agonisingly missing out as the ball drifted past the far post. The visitors made the first change of the day with the frustrated Kelly being replaced by Logan Irvine. Scone continued to look dangerous on every attack with McKay, Strachan & Mitchell all creating chances as they looked to kill off the game. Scone then made some changes themselves with Aaron Carlon coming on for Arran McKay on 72 minutes before 10 minutes later, Calum Black replaced Andrew Mackenzie. As the hosts looked to see out the game, the 3rd goal eventually came on 84 minutes from a Scone free kick which fell to Kevin Sinclair (sponsored by Jempson Joinery) for an easy tap in from 6 yards out. There was just enough time for Sean Whitworth to replace Strachan for the last few minutes as the Jaggies held out for a well deserved win.
Full time score: Scone 3-0 Lochee Harp
Man of the match for Scone: Martin Strachan (sponsored by Strachan Sheet Metal) Again a number of good performances throughout the team and another clean sheet for Josh Gorton but Martin wins not only for his 2 goals but for his work throughout the game. After the match manager Derek Lawson (sponsored by Ronnie McNeill Painter/tiler & Lindsays Butcher) told Jaggie News “I thought we gave a solid performance in a game that we dominated. We restricted Lochee Harp to a couple of chances and we now look forward to a hard game vs a very much improved Forfar Albion on Saturday“.
