Match Report: Lochee Utd.

Saturday 5th October at Thomson Park game sponsored by Jempson Joinery Ltd:

Last weekend saw Scone play Lochee United in the North Superleague for the first time this season. In a game that one point looked like Scone would leave victorious, it was instead United that delivered the ultimate sucker punch in a game that could’ve gone either way. Sean Whitworth made 4 changes to Scone’s last Cup win with Stephen Moon, Craig Mitchell, Darren Gray & Max Avolio all returning to the starting 11. Both sides created chances in the opening minutes with Craig Mitchell having the first opportunity for Scone followed by his brother Ross on 6 mins. Scone were forced into an early substitution when Willie Laing picked up a knock on 27 minutes with Martin Strachan coming on to replace him and Craig Mitchell dropping back into defence. Josh Gorton was the busiest of the 2 keepers making a good save on 38 mins from a Lochee corner kick. Max Avolio had a chance at the other end just before the break with his effort clearing the crossbar.

Half time score: Lochee Utd. 0-0 Scone

The second half started with the hosts continuing to create chances but were unable to keep a shot on target as Scone worked hard to keep them at bay. The hosts made their first change on 56 mins before both sides made further substitutions on 68 mins with Calum Black coming on for Scone’s Max Avolio. On 71 minutes the opening goal came, Aaron Carlon & Darren Gray combined well on the left wing before a Gray cross fizzed along the Lochee goal line & was turned into his own net by Greg Kirk to give the visitors the lead. United continued to attack the Scone goal & Josh Gorton had to make a further couple of saves from Lochee corner kicks to keep his side in it. As the clock counted down, Scone were holding on for what would’ve been a great win through hard work & determined effort but on 86 minutes Lochee Utd got the equaliser with a Kevin Milne strike. To add insult to injury, the referee Liam Redpath added 5 minutes of injury time & in the dying minute the hosts were awarded a penalty which was duly taken by substitute Scott McComiskie to clinch the win in the cruelest of fashions. United will feel that they created enough chances to win the game but Scone will feel they did enough not to lose the game & were very unfortunate to come away from Thomson Park with nothing.

Full time score: Lochee Utd 2-1 Scone

Man of the match for Scone: Josh Gorton (sponsored by Blackadders) – Keeping his place in the team off the back of last week’s clean sheet, Josh pulled off a number of saves to keep Scone in the match & can shoulder little blame for the 2 goals. Off the park this week, the draw has been made for the Macron Scottish Junior Cup and Scone have been drawn away to Aberdeen East End on 26th October. The committee are looking to book a bus for the trip and anyone wishing to travel with the team & officials can speak to anyone at the Club or email for further details.
