Match Report: Lochee Utd

Saturday 4th January at Farquharson Park, Scone sponsored by Cherrybank Garage:

The first visitors to Scone in 2020 were Lochee United in the North Superleague. The reverse of this fixture saw United win 2-1 back in October with an injury time penalty the decider and Scone would have been well aware that anything but an equally committed performance this time around would be needed. Josh Gorton was man of the match for Scone that day & this was his first return to Scone since his transfer to the “Blue Bells“. Still carrying a number of injuries & absentees, manager Sean Whitworth was forced into a late change with a further injury picked up in the warm up ahead of the 2 teams taking to the field. As the game started, Sam Sanchez, playing further up the field, created Scone’s first chance in 3 minutes with Gorton making the save for a corner kick. United shot wide from their first corner before Calum Black had a chance for Scone at the other end. The opening goal came for Lochee on 11 minutes when a long range effort from Scott Webster found the back of the net. Aidan Benvie then had a shot on target but before Scone could equalise, United doubled their lead through Bryan Weasley on 14 minutes as stand in keeper Band was unable to prevent the goal. As Scone looked to get back into the match, they were caught on the break when Lochee scored on 37 minutes with Logan Davie giving the visitors a comfortable lead at the break.

Half time score: Scone 3-0 Lochee United

As the second half began, Aaron Carlon created Scone’s first chance on 48 minutes before the game became littered with a number of fouls & bookings & both sides making substitutions. As hard as Scone worked, they could not find a breakthrough to get back into the game as Lochee United looked to consolidate their place in the League & catch the top 2 sides. Scone remain 8th level on points with Kirriemuir Thistle directly above them. Scone now have a break with no game on Saturday 11th and hopefully a return of fitness & availability soon will be a boost for the Jaggies.

Full time score: Scone 3-0 Lochee Utd

After the match manager Sean Whitworth (sponsored by Balajee Spice) told Jaggy News “I am pleased with the attitude of the players who on the day never gave up trying to play and create. Ultimately, we conceded 3 quick goals in the first half which were avoidable & too easy, we need to learn from these moments. With a free weekend we will take the opportunity to regroup & focus on the next game“.

Elsewhere in the North Superleague:
