Saturday 18th May:
Saturday Saw Scone travel to Brownlands Park for the last of their Section 2 games in the Consolation League Cup v Luncarty and for what ultimately turned out to be Scone’s last game of the season. With a number of players missing, Manager Derek Lawson had to juggle his squad once again as Scone looked to finish with a good performance in what turned out to be a competitive game in a competition that neither team really wanted at this stage of the campaign. The opening half hour was pretty even as both sides looked for the breakthrough, Kevin Sinclair had Scone’s first chance on 5 minutes with stand in keeper Mark Reid being called into action at the other end on 14 minutes. If Scone have had any kind of weakness in recent months it’s conceding a goal straight after another and that’s exactly what happened next with Luncarty scoring twice in 5 minutes. Kieran Donald opened the scoring on 29 minutes before ex-Jaggie Fraser Mills doubled their lead on 34 minutes to give the hosts a cushion going into the break.
Half time score: Luncarty 2-0 Scone
Luncarty made the first change at the break with Alexander Whytock coming on for Kyle Mitchell who wasted no time picking up a yellow card for his hefty challenge on Ross Wilson who was unable to run off the knock and had to be replaced by Lee Maloney on 52 minutes. On 60 minutes Mark Reid did well to pull off a double save before Scone pulled a goal back. On 64 minutes Kevin Sinclair got his first goal of the afternoon when he headed in a Andrew Mackenzie corner kick. Scone then made a further change with Darren Gray coming on for Abi Njie on 65 minutes. As Scone pushed for the equaliser they were unfortunate to concede a penalty which was taken by Tony Holt who calmly slotted home on 73 minutes. Scone hadn’t given up though and on 80 minutes Kevin Sinclair scored his 2nd, this time heading in from a Lee Maloney corner kick to set up a keenly contested finish. Sinclair had a chance to complete his hat-trick on 85 minutes but was unable to keep his effort on target. The manager will be pleased with the teams efforts not only for this match but across the season and all at the Club thank those involved on a good season which has seen Scone improve again year on year.
Full time score: Luncarty 3-2 Scone
