As manager Derek Lawson prepares for season 2018/19 the squad have been put through their paces with training sessions beginning as early as the 19th June. As confirmed in earlier posts, 7 new players have been added to the majority of last season’s squad for the forthcoming season. With upgrade work continuing at Farquharson Park (with thanks to the Community Club and the Scottish Football Partnership) all of the pre season friendly games have been away from home.
First up was a trip to Lochore Welfare where the 2 sides shared the points with new signing Callum Cocker-Tough scoring for Scone for the first time. Next up were St Laurence AFC with “the Jaggies” running out comfortable winners with a 6-0 win including a hat-trick from Martin Strachan and goals from Fraser MacDonald and debut goals for Calum Kinnear & David McPhee. Next was a trip to Fife and a share of the points with a goalless draw v Kelly Hearts U20’s in front of a busy crowd at Central Park. With a 3rd game in less than a week the team began to tire against Super League opponents Carnoustie Panmure losing 2-0, a team who Scone will meet again in the East Region Sectional League Cup later in the season. Finally, the last pre-season friendly was against Banchory St Ternan who have just been relegated from the North Region Super League and again proved to be a tough match with Banchory winning 2-0. Over the course of the 5 games, the manager Derek Lawson has been able to look at the whole squad and experiment with line up’s and formations as he plans for season 2018/19 and told Jaggie News “we welcome the new signings and we are looking forward to the season starting on Saturday. We have a good mix of youth and experience along with a good team spirit as we look to take on the challenges ahead“. The boys will have been building on that “team spirit” as they finished the week off with a team night out in Aberdeen. We wish the manager & the team the best of luck for 2018/19 and we will bring you news of the opening game over the coming weekend.
