The shipbuilders travel down the Tay – matchday preview

Originally scheduled to be played at Craigie Park, today’s opening fixture of the North Division has been switched to Scone due to ongoing renovations at “The Shipbuilders” ground. Last season’s opening fixture was also against today’s opponents East Craigie and saw Scone win 1-0 with a goal from Sean Whitworth (sponsored by Steven & Yvonne Whitworth). The last time these two sides met was at the end of February when Scone were sitting on top of the League having won 7 straight games in a row. However it was the Dundee side that picked up the points that day after a late penalty from Lee Maloney. East Craigie would themselves then go on a good run, only losing 1 of their last 6 games to pip Scone to 5th place in the final League standings by a single point.

Manager Derek Lawson (sponsored by Colin Ogilvie Joinery) will be “expecting a very hard game and Scone will have to be at their best to get a winning start”. With 3 of Scone’s opening 4 fixtures at Faquharson Park, be sure to pick up your season ticket available at all home games to get maximum value. Admission at the gate is £5 for Adults & £2 for Seniors with Season tickets priced at £45 and £20 respectively. We would like to thank the Wheel Inn who will be providing hospitality for the players after the game, if you would like to join us your season ticket will also get you 10% discount off your food bill. If you can’t make today’s game, all of the action will be on out sister twitter account @jaggieslive from 2:15pm.

The Club would like to thank everyone who has been in touch in recent weeks regarding player sponsorship. We were particularly delighted to hear from Jane Farquharson who’s father was the late, great Scott Farquharson. Scott was Mr Scone for many years and in fact was partly responsible for bringing one of the worlds greatest all time players to Scone when he managed to persuade George Best to pull on the red & black for a mini tournament in 1982. Jane has kept in touch with the Club over the years knowing how much it meant to her Dad and we even managed to run into her in Inverness when we were on Cup duty last season. Jane will be sponsoring coach Mark Reid who said “I’d like to thank Jane Farquharson for her sponsorship for the upcoming season. It is an honour to have such a prolific member of the Scone Thistle family supporting myself and the Club. Without the volunteers that assist week in week out, Clubs like Scone could not operate and Scott Farquharson went above and beyond to ensure Scone ran as a successful Club”.

If like Jane you would like to be a Jaggie Sponsor and see your name featured in match reports, photos and other social media posts, please contact for details. Please provide your name, phone number and the player you would like to sponsor and someone from our commercial team will get in touch.

The remaining North Division fixtures today are as follows:

Brechin Vics v Blairgowrie, Forfar Albion v Dundee Violet, Lochee Harp v Coupar Angus, Lochore Welfare v Dundee North End, Luncarty v Kinnoull and Newburgh v Arbroath Vics. We will bring you all of the results and league table in our match day summary later this weekend.
