Scone made it four wins out of four in the league this afternoon when they comfortably held off the challenge of Lochee Harp in a surprisingly low scoring affair at Farquharson Park.
Games between the sides usually average more than five goals and it looked like was going to continue as Lochee created a good chance in the first couple of minutes when Winton did well to block a Keeson effort from the edge of the box and this was followed by a period of constant Scone pressure on the Harp goal.
Mills, Njie and Gary Fergus all saw efforts saved by Harp keeper Garty before Scone took the lead after 13 minutes when Gary Fergus collected a Moon clearance just inside the Scone half before knocking the ball inside to brother Sean. He then deftly chipped the ball over the Lochee Harp defence and Mills managed to race onto the ball, beating the offside trap, before taking the ball into the Harp box and slotting home despite a desperate challenge from Roddy.
Scone were to dominate the chances in the first half with Sean Fergus having an effort off target before Mills produced another save from Garty. Even Scone keeper David Winton got into the shooting act with a long range kick from hand that took a vicious bounce when it landed in the Lochee box and had to be grabbed by Garty in his goal area before hitting the back of the net.
Scone did make it 2-0 with five minutes of the half remaining when a Mitchell ball into the Lochee box was chased by Mills and Roddy made a clumsy tackle which left the referee with no option but to award a Scone penalty and caution the Harp man.
Njie stepped up to send Garty the wrong way and convert the penalty.
The second half saw Scone step back off the pace, content to defend their two goal lead, although Gary Fergus did have an effort saved with 51 minutes gone.
Harp did bring Winton into action after 63 minutes when McDonald got his head on a free kick into the box but his weak effort was easily dealt with by the Scone number one and Scone were to dominate the chances from then on with Sean Fergus, Njie and Whitworth all seeing efforts off target. Substitute Ben Moffat had a chance to make it 3-0 after 75 minutes when he chased down a Whitworth clearance just in front of the Scone dugout and took the ball forward against the Harp defence, managing to work his way into the box, however with the goal gaping his shot was straight at the Harp keeper who held the shot.
Scone were comfortable and looked like they could step up another gear or two but were to be disappointed not to also keep a clean sheet with Harp picking up a consolation goal with two minutes of added time played at the end of the match when McMahon got on the end of a McLeod corner to header home.
