Tuesday night and Scone travelled to Dundee for a friendly v Morgan FP AFC at Craigie Community Campus Sports Hub. Scone’s previous friendly matches had resulted in two wins and a credible draw against Superleague side Montrose Roselea. Morgan’s last game saw them draw with Arbroath Vics 3-3 and also saw their side feature 7 new signings, some of whom would feature again in this match.
With a couple of injuries and players missing for Scone, coach Mark Reid only had 15 players available but will still be disappointed in a below par performance. The warning signs were there from the kick off when despite a couple of early throw ins for Scone, Morgan broke and Lee Roeleveld scored the first of his goals within 2 minutes. This seemed to spark Scone into life and within a further two minutes, Derek Angus had equalised after Abi Njie passed the ball into his path before “Desi” slotted the ball past Ryan Sloan. Both sides would have further chances in the remainder of the half but at the break the score remained 1-1.
During the interval, Scone made 3 changes with Fraser MacDonald, Sean Whitworth and Scott Lafferty all coming on for Lewis Avolio, Matthew Muir & Stephen Moon. As both sides regrouped, Morgan were working hard and although some might argue some of the challenges were over enthusiastic, the next 23 minutes would be devastating for Scone. Michael Cavin made it 2-1 on the night on 54 minutes, eight minutes later it looked like Lee had scored his second goal only for it to go down as an own goal against Scott Lafferty. On 68 minutes, Lee Roeleveld got his second of the night with a cheeky over head kick when he found himself with his back to goal. On 77 minutes, Lee completed his hat trick to make it 5-1. There was a late rally from Scone but by now the damage had already been done. On 81 minutes, Ben Moffat who deserved a goal for his hard work made it 5-2 after previously being denied a penalty kick. Craig Mitchell then made it 5-3 on 85 minutes, Abi Njie would have the ball in the back of the net after this but the goal was ruled out for being offside. In truth, Scone can have no complaints and with the manger back this week and training on Thursday, the boys will be looking to bounce back in Saturday’s game v Dunipace Juniors.
