Report

Saturday 16th September at Farquharson Park, McBookie.com North Division:

Saturday saw Scone welcome Lochore Welfare to Scone in what was to be an enjoyable afternoon for the home team. Manager Derek Lawson was able to welcome back a number of absentees with only Max Avolio, Fraser MacDonald & Willie Laing missing the game. Finishing his suspension was defender Stephen Moon who would go on to have a big part to play in the match. Stand in Captain for the day was Craig Mitchell and the referee was Keith Maskell who was making his second trip to Scone this season already. As the game kicked off, it was Scone that dominated the early exchanges with Arran McKay (sponsored by J & D Simpson) with the first couple of chances on goal followed by Charlie Fertacz (sponsored by Blackadders), Ross Mitchell and Martin Strachan who all looked lively as Scone pushed for the opener. The breakthrough came on 36 mins when a Kevin Sinclair corner was headed on by Stephen Moon before falling at the feet of Ross Mitchell (available to sponsor) who was able to poke the ball over the line and past Inglis in goal. Kevin Sinclair then had a shot off target from a Martin Strachan corner before Charlie Fertacz had an effort blocked as the first half drew to a close.

Half time score: Scone 1-0 Lochore Welfare.

Lochore’s best chance to get back into the game came early in the second half as Welfare broke up field from a Scone corner only to see their effort hit the woodwork on 54 mins. Had that gone in the game might have taken a different complexion instead it would be Scone that again would dominate for the rest of the match. Stephen Moon once again got on the end of a Kevin Sinclair corner this time heading to clear the keeper and double Scone’s lead on 57 mins. Within 7 minutes Stephen Moon found himself in space and shot from outside of the area to get his second and Scone’s 3rd of the day. Scone were pushing forward now at every opportunity and saw a remarkable run of 5 corners within a two minute period as they looked for another goal. Jamie Ayton (sponsored by Scone 2001s) replaced Charlie Fertacz on 73 mins with Gary Mackie (sponsored by Aceso Clinic) coming on for Ben Moffat 5 minutes later before Arran McKay was substituted for Derek Angus on 83 mins.

Full time score: Scone 3-0 Lochore Welfare.

After the match, manager Derek lawson (sponsored by Colin Ogilvy Joiners) told Jaggies News “It was a comfortable afternoon & I was delighted to get 3 points & keep a clean sheet. It was also a bonus having boys back from injuries & holidays“. Next up for Scone is an away trip in the GA Engineering Cup and the gaffer added, “Carnoustie will be a big challenge but one that we are very much looking forward to“.

Man of the match for Scone: Stephen Moon, who not only scored a rare double but also gave a good all round defensive performance. Any enquiries to sponsor Stephen or any of the players can be directed to commercial@sconethistlefc.org.
