Saturday 21st October at Guthrie Park, McBookie.com North Division:
Saturday saw Scone travel to Guthrie Park and record a comfortable win against a Forfar Albion side bottom of the League having only picked up one win this season. Manager Derek Lawson (sponsored by Graham Milne) was without Craig Mitchell & Willie Laing meaning Stephen Moon was acting stand in Captain for the day & Lewis Avolio (sponsored by Liz Duff) was drafted into defence. The manager also used the opportunity to rotate his squad with Ben Moffat & Charlie Fertacz (sponsored by Blackadders) both added to the starting line up as he looked to give everyone some game time ahead of the Scottish Junior Cup tie v West Calder. Scone didn’t take too long to get going, Arran McKay had the first effort on goal in the 3rd minute followed by Ben Moffat who drew the first save from Rhys Milne in the Forfar Albion goal. In the 8th minute the lively Arran McKay (sponsored by J D Simpson Painter & Decorator) made the breakthrough as he opened the scoring after Charlie Fertacz had crossed the ball from the left wing to find him.The remainder of the fist half saw a number of chances for Scone with Albion being held to a couple of half chances, however a 5 minute spell before the break saw Scone score 3 goals in quick succession that put the game beyond doubt and out of reach for Albion. Ross Mitchell (sponsored by Barry Grieve Plastering, Jedburgh) got his first goal of the afternoon on 39 minutes when he got on the end of a Andrew Mackenzie corner kick, Arran McKay then got his second of the afternoon after Fraser Morrison had found him on 42 minutes then on the stroke of half time, Ross Mitchell scored his second from a Kevin Sinclair corner.
Half time score: Forfar Albion 0-4 Scone Thistle
The second half would have Jaggie fans wondering how many they would score and they didn’t have to wait too long. First though Forfar Albion made their first substitution of the day when Jaden Murphy came on for Ryan Anderson. Ross Mitchell scored his 3rd on 49 minutes again connecting to an Andrew Mackenzie corner to score The Jaggies 5th and complete a 10 minute hat-trick (albeit split by the interval). Ross was then rested with Gary Mackie & Derek Angus coming on to replace him & Lewis Avolio on 56 minutes. As the game passed the hour mark, Charlie Fertacz (sponsored by Blackadders) scored on 61 minutes after Arran McKay chipped the ball over the Albion defence to allow Charlie to beat the keeper before he was replaced by Jamie Ayton on 66 minutes. Ben Moffat then completed the scoring for the day on 70 minutes when he scored with a great header getting on the end of an Arran McKay cross as Scone completed a satisfying away day.
Full time score: Forfar Albion 0-7 Scone Thistle
Man of the match for Scone: Arran McKay who scored a couple and worked tirelessly and was a constant thorn in Albion’s side. Ross Mitchell deserves a mention for his hat-trick and Fraser Morrison & Andrew McKenzie both looked solid in midfield. After the match, the manager Derek Lawson told Jaggie News “ I was delighted to keep another clean sheet and collect 3 points as well as resting a few players and giving others some game time”.
